N°5 – Maintaining car flow rates training – level 1

Look at the car flow rates circulating below.

With no car being able to leave the current traffic circulation, we can establish “traffic flow continuity”.

– As there are no other possibilities all the cars arriving at point C leave by point D
The traffic flow at point C is the same as at point D,
Therefore: qvC = qvD

– All the cars arriving at point C split into the two lanes A and E.
The traffic flow at point C = traffic flow at A + traffic flow at E.
Therefore: qvC = qvA + qvE.

– All the cars arriving at point A go through point B.
Therefore: qvA = qvB.

– All the cars leaving by point D come from lanes E and B.
Therefore: qvD = qvE +qvB.

Question  

Determine the “traffic flow [V/h]” at A, E and D.

qvA = 40 [V/h]
qvD = 100 [V/h]
qvE = 60 [V/h] (qvE = qvD – qvA)
